Hotel Beaux Arts – Miami

It wasn’t that long ago when downtown Miami was considered the stepchild to Miami Beach. But as Art Basel and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts lure crowds, the neighborhood’s reputation as a booming cultural enclave has become apparent. One downtown newcomer that has made a striking impression is the 44-room and suite Hotel Beaux Arts, which opened this spring on the 38th, 39th, and 40th floors of the JW Marriot Marquis, part of the burgeoning Metropolitan Miami mixed-use development.

Sumptuous design elements reflect the Beaux Arts’ allure as a hideaway. Wendy Mendes, vice president in RTKL‘s Miami office, spearheaded the project, and points out that additions such as custom millwork, imported Italian marble, and LED faucets are unconventional investments. “We wanted to elevate the execution,” she says. “This is a very high-detail, high-end product. Everything about the hotel celebrates art and fine living; the space feels like a gallery.”

A color palette of white, black, coppery ochre, and gray is hushed to “highlight the more artisan details that unfold as you experience the room,” Mendes notes. “The hotel’s palette isn’t as colorful as we’ve come to expect in Miami. Here, it’s the artwork where the more vibrant colors pop.”

Doors adorned with stamped metal inserts and oversized frames are works of art in themselves. Inside, modern picture lights, plush bedding, and sleek Brazilian cherrywood floors topped with area rugs create an inviting residential vibe.

“Incorporating the second hotel’s identity into the first,” was a challenge according to Mendes. But because of the Hotel Beaux Arts’ few public spaces beyond L’Atelier, an exclusive hangout amid waterfront views, guests are treated to all the amenities of the JW Marriott, including Daniel Boulud’s wildly popular db Bistro Moderne.
