The Meritage Resort and Spa in Napa Valley is undergoing a guestroom update led by Hirsch Bedner Associates’ (HBA) San Francisco office. The comprehensive overhaul, impacting the property’s 157 Meritage guestrooms and its 165 Bordeaux guestrooms, will draw inspiration from the area’s idyllic landscapes.
“Leather detailing and metal hardware showcase elevated craftsmanship in a sophisticated interpretation of an equestrian aesthetic,” says Sarah Hullinger, senior project designer at HBA San Francisco. “Wood, leather, metal, and stone are carried through the furnishings and fixtures, bringing a slightly masculine element of rustic comfort, while linen fabric and curved lines at the coffee niche balance the room with an approachable softness.”
In the Meritage guestrooms, new broadloom carpeting with modern basketweave patterns will be installed along with deep wingback chairs and ottomans, dark bronze light fixtures, and contemporary dark barn doors that partition bedrooms from bathrooms. Decorative stone backsplashes will reinforce the outdoors, illuminated by vanities, decorative sconces, and backlit mirrors. Corridors will taut new decorative lighting, carpeting, wallcoverings, and stone flooring as well.
The agricultural legacy of the setting will inform the revamp of Bordeaux guestrooms with natural, tonal colors and sophisticated finishes like dark bronze and brushed brass that add a rustic quality complementary to the resort’s surroundings. Wallcoverings will be distinguished by subtle geometric textures that layer rooms with softness alongside neutral organic fabrics. “With a nod to the Mission-style architecture of the resort, the furniture of the Bordeaux guestrooms was selected to be timeless, providing an updated expression of relaxed California elegance,” adds Hullinger. “We took a minimalistic approach to keep rooms looking clean and uncluttered.”
The redesign is slated for completion in March 2024.
