The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) has appointed Khoi Vo to serve as the organization’s next CEO. Vo, who was an ASID board member from 2017–2019, will work alongside current ASID CEO Gary Wheeler through September 30th. Wheeler will remain with the nonprofit in an advisor capacity through the end of 2022 at which point he will retire.
“In Khoi Vo, ASID found a ‘unicorn,’ with highly specialized experience and an effective and energetic style of leadership crucial for the organization’s growth and expansion in the years to come,” says Jennifer Kolstad, co-chair of the ASID CEO search committee. “As ASID advances its mission to promote the value of interior design and its power to impact lives, Khoi Vo’s leadership will serve not only the society, but the whole design world and public.”
Vo, who received a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Florida and a master of architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture, began his design career in 2002 when he founded Studio Four Los Angeles. He served as design director at the firm before launching Kohi Vo Design in 2005. Acting as design director of his namesake studio for 12 years, Vo oversaw all phases of the practice’s projects, which included collaborations industry giants like Deloitte, Disney, Google, and NASA.
Vo has also contributed the design world as an educator. He worked as a professor in the interior design department at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and later served as chair. Vo’s work with SCAD also led him to helm the university’s former Hong Kong campus, which closed in 2020, as vice president of industry relations. Vo currently sits on the board of directors for the Interior Design Educator Council Foundation and has served as site visitor and co-chair for the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), and held membership at the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) for more than a decade.
“Khoi Vo brings all the qualities needed and more to lead ASID into the future—an understanding of our diverse membership, a practitioner with experience, a proven business mind, and a leader who can build teams and networks with a new perspective,” adds John Cialone, ASID CEO search committee co-chair. “We are excited for his stewardship to continue the work of promoting the value of interior design and our members in this new chapter of ASID’s history.”
