Soho House plants a new flag in West Hollywood with the launch of Holloway House. Only moments away from the members club’s first Los Angeles outpost, Soho House West Hollywood, Holloway House was crafted by the Soho House Design team to pay homage to the Southern California landscape through a bold lens inspired by the color blocking and strong geometries of midcentury artists like David Hockney and Ed Ruscha.
“You see [Southern California] reflected in all the textures, prints, tapestries, and marbles used throughout the house—whether it’s the bold carpet in the library, terrazzo flooring in the sitting room and atrium, wood wall paneling, or the rich velvets and patterned fabrics,” says Candace Hickman, lead designer at Soho House Design. “Even the artwork speaks to the neighborhood, which is made up of pieces from local artists all under the age of 40. We really wanted to lean into locally inspired elements and details for this house.”
Holloway House conveys a handsome sense of place beginning with the club on the ground floor. Bespoke furniture tops mint terrazzo floors reminiscent of the 1960s, while dark wood panels and neutral-toned velvet and patterned fabrics provide contrast. A large doorway leads to a sunny atrium anchored by a bar. Mint terrazzo abounds again, complemented by textured golden fabrics in the space’s indoor and outdoor areas. An intimate library awaits nearby, outfitted with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and ample seating as well.
Vaulted ceilings and light oak-stained floors distinguish the onsite restaurant, which is lined with rich burgundy leather booths paired with vintage chairs and burl wood tabletops. Crowning Holloway House is Mandolin Mezze, a rooftop bistro endowed with daybeds and lounge seating that overlooks sweeping vistas. The neutral tones of the furniture allow bold elements—like checkered floors and burgundy-piped umbrellas—to pop in tandem with an abstract mural by local artist Jessalyn Brooks.
Five configurations span the 34 bedrooms, including cozy, small, medium, big, and big accessible. Housed across three floors, accommodations are populated with midcentury-style furniture installed upon aged wooden floors and woven tapestries made with commissioned fabric designed in Southern California. Velvet or boucle upholstery wrap beds accented by burl wood side tables and ceramic bedside lamps. Bathrooms are also lined with textured walls, mosaic stone floors, handblown vanity lights, and natural brass fixtures. Larger rooms are equipped with sliding glass and wooden doors that partition the bathroom.
