In July 2023, JCJ Architecture and Group One Partners unveiled plans to combine forces, to continue championing a future-forward approach to hospitality design.
The move represents an exciting chapter for the well-established and like-minded firms, priming them to lead the way for the future of the built environment. The acquisition cultivates a mix of design and delivery intelligence, complementary experience, strong reputations, and exceptional client service that continues to thrive nearly a year in.
Group One’s roots in the Boston community coupled with JCJ’s national footprint, network, and portfolio enable both firms to seamlessly expand their offerings and geographical impact. After five years of partnering on various projects, and learning the ins and outs of both organizations, the decision to join forces grew out of mutual respect and an understanding of each firm’s strengths and the needs of clients.
The addition supports and advances JCJ’s long history of working across community, hospitality, and commercial markets, an approach that has helped the firm to flourish for more than 85 years.

“JCJ Architecture is firmly rooted in service to the community and unwavering integrity. When evaluating a partnership of this type, it is crucial that the collaboration is based on aligned values and cultural fit,” says Peter Stevens, president at JCJ Architecture. “This acquisition emerged from a successful partnership between JCJ and Group One over several years, where these shared values became evident and fully explored. Working alongside Group One principals—now JCJ principals—Harry Wheeler and Mary Faria have propelled us toward a brighter future for both our national team and our clients across the country.”
The complementary skillsets and multifaceted experiences of the team enable JCJ to address the needs of any hospitality project, including branded hotels, bespoke boutiques, intricate renovations, large-scale ground-up destination gaming resorts, and everything in between. Furthermore, JCJ’s community-based practice group adds an intriguing layer to Group One’s deep understanding of the Boston metro area.
“Throughout our longtime collaborative relationship with JCJ, we have continued to discover and develop important synergies,” says Harry Wheeler, principal at Group One. “As our team looked to the future, we decided to take this extraordinary opportunity to expand our reach and resources, enhancing the value that we provide to our clients, partners, and employees.”
As JCJ looks toward future potential growth across all market sectors, this seamless cross-pollination supports broader geographic diversification opportunities in New England and beyond. Ultimately, the exciting combination of industry talent, market insight, and above all, a commitment to the highest level of design work and client service represented by this new arrangement continues to drive an exciting journey for both JCJ Architecture and Group One, a JCJ Architecture Studio.
