New reports from Lodging Econometrics (LE) show that the U.S. maintains the world’s largest construction pipeline with 4,413 projects and 546,135 rooms.
China comes in second with 2,513 projects and 548,550 rooms; followed by Indonesia with 405 projects and 65,631 rooms. Brazil shows 396 projects and 70,478 rooms, while India rounds out the top five with 336 projects for 50,753 rooms.
The U.S. was also the only one of the top countries showing an uptick in projects in 2015, with an increase of 21 percent. India showed the steepest decline with projects dropping 12 percent last year.
LE reports from March noted that demand for hotel rooms has grown 2 percent nationally in the last four years, with upper midscale and upscale developments dominating the market.
