The winner of the sixth annual HD/West Elm Student Product Design Competition is Ilyra Carlton of Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Georgia for her design of the Rogan barstool.
Marrying form and function with simple lines, Rogan is characterized by upholstered leather cushions on the seat and back and a sturdy frame made of walnut or oak.
Judged by West Elm Contract design director Paul Galli, this year’s contest tasked students to design a barstool conceived for hospitality and commercial spaces. In addition to a $5,000 prize, the winner will also have their product produced by West Elm.
“The Rogan stool is a playful, stylish, and versatile barstool perfect for use in both hospitality and commercial spaces,” says Galli. “It will be a wonderful addition to the West Elm portfolio of B2B products.”
Maria Francesca Melillo, also of SCAD, was named this year’s finalist for her Chroma barstool, which aims to redefine elegance by combining natural and modern materials via chrome, leather, and wood.
Carlton and Melillo will be honored at the 20th annual HD Awards ceremony on April 30th at the Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas during HD Expo + Conference. Purchase tickets today!
