The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco has completed its multi-phase renovation.
The guestroom revamp marks the completion of the 105-year-old hotel’s ongoing renovation, which began in 2011 with the reopening of its signature restaurant, Parallel 37, followed by the lobby and lounge space in 2012. Its new meeting spaces and ballroom opened in 2014.
Led by HBA, the revamp has contemporized the brand’s traditional design. All 336 guestrooms and suites now feature a palette of steely blue and gray hues inspired by Bay Area fog, and furnishings based on fine menswear. Curtain cords were made to resemble a man’s belt, while chairs and chaise lounges are clad in tweed fabric. Abstract artwork pays homage to the San Francisco Ballet.
“The new guestroom design draws inspiration from San Francisco’s Wilkes Bashford—one of the city’s iconic luxury department stores—and the legacy of former Mayor Willie Brown, renowned for his famous suits,” says Kathleen Dauber, HBA principal designer. “The suiting aesthetic can be found in the specially woven pillows, the layering of the wallcoverings in the guestrooms and corridors—creating a sense of drama in the spaces.”
The hotel is located in downtown San Francisco near the financial district, Chinatown, and Union Square.
