STUDIO Q has completed its design of Eat Thai, a newly opened restaurant in Oslo, Norway.
Located in the Steen & Strøm Magasin department store food court, the small eatery—measuring approximately 525-square-feet with 40 seats—is part of the historic 112-year-old building’s $30 million renovation.
STUDIO Q’s Bangkok studio recreated the feel of a traditional Thai market-style café and kitchen in the store’s basement space. The pre-fabricated design built in Southeast Asia is capable of being disassembled, shipped, and reconstructed on site in six months. The design also needed to be scalable and replicable for future locations.
The design is simple, integrating top-grade materials for a polished yet rustic look. Tables and cabinetry are made with solid teak, and benches are made with individual pieces of meranti wood from Java, Indonesia. The floor and walls are clad in handmade clay tiles.
