New York firm AvroKO brings its Genuine Liquorette bar to London, with a design that nods to New York bodegas.
Located in a Victorian-era building in the city’s Fitzrovia neighborhood, the retro-inspired design boasts 1970s-era details with checkered floors and neon signage, a complement to the maiden location in New York. The firm recovered and restored original Victorian moldings, wood and floor tiles, and wallpapers, which seamlessly blend with new design elements.
The main seating area is located in the rear of the ground floor where zinc tables, checkerboard vinyl flooring, and oak shelves line the space, recalling a liquor store stockroom. The nostalgic feel is bolstered by pendant lights and green paneling. A more casual seating area toward the entrance boasts high counters and a cocktail menu displayed on a vintage-style blackboard.
Lined with old advertising posters, a timber stairway leads to a second bar on the floor above. Here, plastic flaps open up to the bar area, which give new life to original wallpaper and a rustic brick fireplace. Black leather banquettes complete the look, offering another playful reference to the 1970s.
