Vibrant, seasonally driven F&B concept Bayberry Garden has arrived in Providence, Rhode Island, delivering an authentic New England culinary experience against a lush backdrop of more than 100 trees, vines, and foliage. Gardened by co-owner Natalie Dennen, the 96-seat restaurant recalls a fecund English garden and immerses guests in a layered botanical atmosphere.
“There was such a fluid creative process that resulted in architectural elements to really grow into their place,” says designer Andrew Tower of locally based firm HB Design & Build, which partnered with Dennen and her husband Tom on the project. “We purposefully worked onsite a lot of the time, which provided us the opportunity to help shape elements right then and there, making them feel truly embedded and integral to the space.”
Two walls of floor-to-ceiling windows flood the interior with natural light, invigorating 12-foot-tall Ficus Alii trees, ivy, and other potted flora. Exposed wood complements the natural scenery, while raw industrial elements, like steel beams, line the perimeter. Leather banquettes and grey stone tabletops further accent the greenery on display.
An open kitchen serves as the nucleus of Bayberry Garden, and features eight seats positioned beside the chef’s counter for a more intimate dining experience. More than 100 additional seats span the bar and outdoor patio as well.
