Hospitality veteran Brent Bolthouse has unveiled the Bungalow Long Beach. With locations in Santa Monica and Huntington Beach, the lounge’s newest outpost brings the same vibrant energy and celebratory sense of community to Long Beach, California.
The Bungalow Long Beach—first opened as Bolthouse’s restaurant concept the Bungalow Kitchen—reflects the eclectic spirit of the city via a design by Studio Collective. “The space was always intended to be more of a bar/lounge project; however, as we were getting closer to the opening, we had to deal with the realities of the COVID pandemic and in California, that meant restaurants were going to be allowed to open before bars,” explains Adam Goldstein, partner and design director at Studio Collective. “It was at that time that Brent decided to pivot and turn the space into a Bungalow Kitchen.”
The shift in concept is most apparent in the main bar area and on the covered patio where the team initially installed the dining seating. “Removing all of the banquettes and dining tables and replacing them with lower height sofas and club chairs really opens up the space visually,” Goldstein says. The team also punched through some walls to allow for better flow throughout the 10,000-square-foot space.
Decorated with 1970s relics and black-and-white art, the venue evokes a rock ‘n’ roll-style atmosphere. The Bungalow is also characterized by various seating areas—including the Game Room and Sun Room—large fireplaces, and wood-plank ceilings.
“Bungalow Long Beach, similar to its predecessors, feels like going to a great house party and allows for multiple experiences depending if you are going with a big group of friends or out on a date,” Goldstein says.
