Ukraine-based firm Mirzoyan Studio was tasked with creating a cozy cocktail and music bar for vinyl enthusiasts and live-set lovers. The result: Bursa Bar, located on the first floor of the Bursa Hotel in the Kyiv’s historic center.
The space features simple and functional zoning. Upon entry, a DJ booth and record collection sits in the center surrounded by a dance floor flanked by bar counters.
Bursa Bar takes cues from Japanese design
Mirzoyan Studio’s design concept takes notes from Japanese aesthetics with orthogonal lines, clean shapes, and horizontal orientation of objects against a vertical rhythm of the walls. Plywood, which serves as the basis for walls, ceilings, and furnishings custom made by Ukrainian craftsmen, is the dominant material used throughout. Stainless steel is applied to window countertops and chair legs, too.
To ensure sound insulation for the hotel rooms located above, the ceiling level was lowered and adorned with a dark green lattice structure that creates a more intimate atmosphere.
Lighting also plays a crucial role—especially in creating the evening atmosphere. Accent lighting is utilized in seating areas to create small spots of brightness, while soft linear lighting emphasizes vinyl and drink shelves off to the side. The intensity of the lighting can be adjusted to create various moods in different areas of the space as well.
