Minneapolis-based design studio Shea has completed the new location of beloved local restaurant Butcher & the Boar. To elevate the design of the eatery’s original outpost, Shea imbued the new space with exposed timber ceilings, polished concrete floors, and dark caramel hues inspired by the industrial vernacular of Minneapolis’ North Loop neighborhood.
“Our goal was to have a small thread to the original, while reinventing it for the North Loop neighborhood and the next generation of the brand,” says Cori Kuechenmeister, Shea senior associate and director of design. “The balance of warmth, comfort, and vivacious energy provides a space for guests to create their own experience, whether that’s lounging and cocktail drinking with friends, sharing multiple chef-created plates with a group, or a more intimate, special meal.”
An entryway leads to a dining room layered with weathered textures and plush booths and banquettes. Varied residential-style dining tables also line the interior to accommodate a range of party sizes, while a set of windows partition the dining room from the Char Bar, which features large illuminated whiskey decanters, charred flooring, and ultra-plush bar stools. A medley of incandescent lights cast the rustic aesthetic in a soft, sexy glow as well.
