The Capella Hanoi in Vietnam has expanded its F&B lineup with the launch of the Hudson Rooms, a 120-seat restaurant and oyster bar spread across the hotel’s rooftop. Hong Kong- and Singapore-based Brewin Design Office crafted the aptly named eatery in homage to 1920s New York and the renaissance of travel. The golden era is transposed into a contemporary and sophisticated concept that complements the property’s interior design by Bill Bensley.
“The building architecture was a big influence for the design of the rooftop bar. The art deco aesthetics led us back to 1920s New York oyster bars, in particular the Grand Central Oyster Bar,” says Brewin director Nicole Misir. “The rest of the design naturally flows from this anchor reference, and was also designed to be reminiscent of the era with trims and stepping motifs.”
Vaulted ceilings nod to New York’s Art Deco landmarks, while frosted bronze-tinted mirrors clad the restaurant’s south-facing rooms to accentuate the dramatic golden hue of late afternoon sun. Light tones and reflective surfaces ensconce the main dining room in contrast to the more intimate members lounge, where dark timber, stone, and stucco infuse a masculine sensibility.
