Nestled into the picturesque hills of Anapa, Russia, the new Cote Rocheuse Winery has been completed by architect Alexander Balabin of Moscow-based Severin Project. The modern design draws upon the gravitational principles of winemaking to evoke a futuristic-style narrative as expressive as it is functional. “As an architectural object, the winery is aimed to become a self-sufficient property in terms of functionality, meaning, and emotional perception,” Balabin says.
Overlooking nearly 80 acres, Cote Rocheuse Winery comprises amenities including tasting rooms, a restaurant, and a partially above-ground cellar. A simple, rectangular base houses the winemaking facilities, topped by an upper volume detailed with a rounded outline reminiscent of a beach pebble found on the nearby coast. The façade comprises large-scale translucent stained-glass as well as solid concrete panels that complement the architectural concrete outline. In addition to panoramic terraces, a rooftop space also maximizes property views.
“The owner of the winery put two tasks—to help to develop his winemaking business and reprogram the territory to make it attractive,” Balabin adds. “The winery will definitely become a tourist sightseeing and will increase the interest to winemaking in Russia.”
