The Portola Hotel & Spa in Monterey, California has announced the completion of its $6 million lobby overhaul by San Francisco-based studio Puccini Group. The renovated atrium lobby welcomes a new bar and restaurant Jacks Monterey. The venue’s design reflects Monterey’s iconic natural scenery and its culture.
“The coastal Monterey landscape, wildlife, and local artist community had a tremendous influence on our design and materials palette,” says the studio’s chief creative office Rob Polacek.
Modern furnishings recall the weathered wooden docks and canneries located near the property, while crisp blue tones mirror the tones of the Pacific Ocean. The coastline is referenced as well with pink and sage hues and live trees. A large modern fireplace serves as one of the eatery’s major focal points.
