Los Angeles-based design studio Preen has completed the design of Prime, a new steakhouse at the Wild Horse Pass resort complex just outside of Phoenix, Arizona. Located on the 11th floor of the casino tower, the concept echoes the influence of the Gila River Indian Community and the sanctity of the surrounding landscape. “The restaurant design was inspired first and foremost by the land—the desert land there is sacred,” says Preen founder Alexis Readinger. “The result is an immersive, experiential restaurant complete with awesome view expanse.”
An earthy materiality of stone and rose-tan slagged plasters reinforce the desert terrain, accented by a stylized twist on French design aesthetics. Simple platonic forms characterize the visual narrative, alluding to the landscape with inviting arches and an inverted pyramid that infuses intimacy.
A large diamond-shaped concrete bar also serves as a focal point, positioned to maximize an expansive outdoor view complete with cantilevered lighting that mimics the moon. Warm, mellow lighting also amplifies limestone dining sofas, rose glass tables, and the carpeting’s rust-rose tones. Details, like fluting and stepped plaster, channel classic steakhouse design cues along with Ultrasuede, leather, and mirror elements.
