Interactive steakhouse concept Prime + Proper has arrived as the latest culinary addition to Detroit’s Capitol Park District. Outfitted with a modern, gothic glamour, the restaurant balances sleek black tones with notes of ivory.
Designed by local firm McIntosh Poris Associates, the two-floor, 10,000-square-foot eatery juxtaposes Old World grit with sleek, richly textured finishes. Interiors boast antique brass details, cowhide and soft leather, intricate tiling, tufted velvet, white marble, and aged wood to honor Detroit’s postmodern, neo-Gothic, and Art Deco traditions. A century-old marble and brass staircase has been restored, while the 300-square-foot dry aging room is lined with walls of pink Himalayan sea salt within a marine-grade stainless steel enclosure. The diamond-shaped floorplan of the lower dining rooms accommodates up to 180 diners and includes an operable window façade that overlooks State Street.
