A two-story venue along the Promenade of Davos, Switzerland has been transformed into a temporary speakeasy by Rockwell Group’s Madrid office. H’Mark Hospitality tapped the New York-based firm to create a space to host visitors attending the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum last week.
Inspired by 1930s Hollywood glamour, the project was influenced by notions of discretion, refuge, and covert fun affiliated with speakeasies. Surreal, vibrant elements recall the world of Alice in Wonderland. Guests arrive via a faux flower shop with black vinyl walls and shelving overflowing with greenery. A velvet curtain at the end of the shop’s long corridor marks the entrance to the clandestine retreat.
The first floor is home to a bar, smoking lounge, and lounge areas outfitted with wood floors and ceilings. Oversized ruby-toned wallcoverings depict a damask pattern alongside eccentric décor like faux fur blankets, rugs, barstools, and tree trunk tables. The second floor hosts larger group functions and features the same damask wallcovering that becomes translucent when positioned before the street-facing windows.
