Gulla Jonsdottir, owner of Gulla Jonsdottir Architecture & Design Los Angeles, has completed work on the newly opened Rumpus Room, a New York nightlife concept located on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
The 1,600-square-foot space was repurposed from Sapphire Lounge, a club that opened in 1992. Inspired by a French nightclub that owner Gabriel Levy once frequented, Rumpus Room interiors feature a 1980s vibe and eclectic artwork, such as a life-size Grace Jones mannequin.
Burnt wood and bamboo walls complement the club’s light coconut-colored floors, while seating comprises hand-sewn leather banquettes and the bar features a sleek copper top.
