Gerber Group has debuted Studio at the W New York – Union Square. Housed in the former Lilium lounge space, the nightclub features the work of New York-based contemporary artist Domingo Zapata, including a large-scale installation inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
“We are ecstatic to debut this truly unique venue in partnership with such a talented artist as Domingo Zapata,” says Scott Gerber, principal and CEO of Gerber Group. “His aesthetic is bold, daring, and consistently cutting edge—a perfect fit for our property at W Union Square, which always looks to provide guests and local tastemakers alike with unique and innovative nightlife destinations.”
Studio represents both Gerber Group’s first venue partnership with a visual artist and Zapata’s first full-scale hospitality collaboration.
“As an artist, having a space to share my work with the public is an honor and a joy,” says Zapata. “I’m thrilled to be part of this collaboration that will offer patrons an exclusive peek at my creative process.”
Upon arrival, guests experience Alice-inspired murals leading down to a subterranean lounge. Once inside, a continuous mural runs along the space’s perimeter. Inspired by the style of Zapata’s own Gramercy Park studio, Studio’s shadowy enclaves and seating areas are reupholstered in red velvet and allude to a glamorous old New York with open ceilings and untainted floors.
