21c Museum Hotels has launched its seventh property within the refurbished Gray & Dudley Building in downtown Nashville. The 124-room 21c Museum Hotel Nashville hosts 10,500 square feet of contemporary art exhibition space.
The property also marks the brand’s seventh collaboration with Deborah Berke Partners as well as its fourth collaboration with architecture firms Pittsburgh’s Perfido Weiskopf Wagstaff and Goettel. The design honors the integrity of the historic building, which was first constructed in 1900. The original Chicago-style design includes large arched windows, an articulated masonry façade accented with terracotta, and a roofline cornice. The lobby gallery remains equipped with cast-iron columns as well as a gift shop that doubles as a lounge and video gallery. The versatile space overlooks the double-height main gallery on the lower level. Three newly built light wells flood the core of the building with sunlight as well.
Rooms boast wood floors, high ceilings, custom furnishings, large windows, and elegant floor-to-ceiling drapes. Seven apartment-style rooftop suites are included. Indoor-outdoor suites are equipped with master bedrooms, king beds, soaking tubs, glass-enclosed showers, powder rooms, and open living and dining spaces convertible via a folding glass wall. The 21c penthouse suite boasts 1,700 square feet of living and outdoor space.
Meeting galleries and museum space on the second floor accommodate a variety of needs, connected via a blackened steel staircase constructed with perforated metal risers and hand rails wrapped in leather.
Onsite eatery Gray & Dudley on the hotel’s first floor offers a relaxed and elegant atmosphere with a rich palette and industrial materials juxtaposing the past and future of the building. The east dining room, bar, and lounge spaces are designed with double-height ceilings, custom wood floors, and a blackened steel bar accented in copper and zinc. The intimate west dining room features refined décor, marble accents, and softer materials. Two 12-seat private dining rooms can be merged for larger functions.
