Atelier Ace has announced that a new Ace Hotel is scheduled to debut in Brooklyn’s Boerum Hill neighborhood late spring 2021. New York design firm Roman and Williams is collaborating on the 287-room Ace Hotel Brooklyn, which will complement its serene setting with an openness that promotes community and creativity.
“We’ve been building toward Ace Brooklyn for years; the entire city has reimagined itself several times over since we started,” says Ace Hotel Group president Brad Wilson. “That’s exactly the spirit we’ve worked to mirror in every corner of our new home—the inexhaustible ingenuity that stands as the borough’s only constant.”
Roman and Williams is responsible for designing the Brooklyn outpost’s building and its interiors, which will instill a sense of transparency between several indoor-outdoor portals and an animated public lobby. Ace Hotel Brooklyn, which also marks brand’s second new-build property, will also be crafted to honor the industrial grit of Brooklyn’s historic shipyards through an artful neo-expressionist lens. Handcrafted elements will also influence the design, from massive timber elements in the lobby to custom tile murals in restrooms, while accommodations will be clad with floor-to-ceiling windows and original artwork by local fiber and textile artists
“We chose to embrace a governing principle of purity and artistic spirit in our architecture and the spaces within,” explain Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch, cofounders of Roman and Williams. “We employed a philosophy of primitive modernism holistically across the project. This highly artistic approach drove us to use construction methods and materials with honesty. This is evident in everything you touch and see. This undecorated and tactile spirit expresses a radical transparency in its approach to the design of Ace Hotel Brooklyn.”
