A new boutique hotel, Alsace LA, has debuted in the historic West Adams section of Los Angeles. The 48-room urban getaway exudes an artistic flair defined by striking architecture and visual storytelling. New York-based firm Home Studios conceived the property’s modern interior design in homage to the eclectic surrounding vernacular.
“West Adams’ varied architectural tradition, which includes a diverse and unique mix of Craftsman and Spanish Revival homes, influenced the varied design approach and provides guests with an authentic sense of place and history,” says Oliver Haslegrave, creative director and founder of Home Studios. “The hotel’s accessible aesthetic stands out as a neighborhood-minded destination for locals and out of towners alike.”
A Mediterranean-inspired spirit enlivens the arrival experience, heralding a layered visual experience. Soft curves, white oak ceilings, terracotta plaster, and a range of artwork weave subtle references to California’s biodiversity and European antiquity into Alsace LA’s public spaces. A tile mural in the lobby, for instance, draws influence from ancient mosaic art in its depiction of abstracted fauna.
The central courtyard functions as a key tenet to the hotel’s residential-style experience, infusing light through each of the property’s three stories. A pool and 24-hour fitness center currently round out the onsite amenities.
Old World charms and contemporary comforts converge inside each of the airy 230-square-foot guestrooms. Chambers are punctuated by handcrafted details—like rattan and wood wardrobes and sculptural brass hooks—while larger suites are equipped with balconies, custom dining tables, and bespoke pullout sofas.
