Following a $10 million rebuild and renovation, andBeyond Matetsi River Lodge has opened in Zimbabwe, only 25 miles north of Victoria Falls. The lodge is set upon a 123,500-acre private wildlife concession—one of the region’s largest—and boasts almost 10 miles of private Zambezi River frontage.
The property is adorned with traditional wood and stone abstract carvings to highlight the area’s cultural heritage. A red-gold copper motif makes reference to mineral riches, while splashes of bright blue recall the tides of the river, which can be experienced at eye-level in the property’s wine cellar.
The lodge currently comprises an intimate nine-suite camp crafted from locally sourced and repurposed materials that pay homage to the area’s ancient fishing and basket-weaving traditions. Clean lines, authentic craft pieces, and natural objects define the suites, and ensuite bathrooms feature indoor-outdoor showers in addition to a deep, circular tub overlooking the river. A plunge pool is attached to the private verandas, which invite guests to enjoy the scenery with comfortable seating. An additional camp will be unveiled in September.
A private, four-bedroom villa with two ensuite bathrooms accommodates up to eight people and includes a kitchen, indoor-outdoor dining spaces, a private veranda, pool, and a firepit. It also features a dedicated guide, private vehicle, chef, and butler.
Also included onsite is a gym, massage sala, conference facility, safari shop, and a 66-foot-long rim flow swimming pool stretching to the riverbank.
