Atlantis, Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas will undergo four renovation projects.
New York-based interior architect and designer Jeffrey Beers will oversee the projects—the beginning of a long-term plan that will encompass additional accommodations and public spaces.
“My firm is thrilled to collaborate with Atlantis again to create new designs for some of the resort’s key areas,” says Beers. “It’ll be a fresh take on Atlantis’ signature style.”
The projects include a revamp of Atlantis Casino, the Cove Atlantis, and two of the resort’s 40 F&B outlets—the Marketplace restaurant and the nearby Plato’s lounge, which began renovations this summer.
Marketplace is slated to reopen in December as the 300-seat Poseidon’s Table, a sea-inspired buffet concept. Stained walnut shelving, handblown bubble lighting, and sconces with chrome displays will frame an interactive buffet area with glass mosaic stations. A chandelier with colorful glass bubbles will hang above the main dining area, which will feature a teal and beige color palette. Inspired by the tides, a softly glowing wall will continuously change colors behind a bubbled screen.
Located in heart of the expansive site’s Royal Towers, Plato’s lounge will be reconfigured with a new layout of four distinct spaces and beach-themed design. A central bar area features shagreen-upholstered chairs below an onyx backdrop, while the 40-seat bar will comprise two inward-facing horseshoe surfaces clad in leather-wrapped panels with chrome details. Bordered by a wall of arched windows, a raised 60-seat lounge area will include eclectic furniture with teal and coral upholstery juxtaposed with custom water-like murals. A library lounge featuring walnut walls with polished chrome and dark bronze metals will sit adjacent to the elevated area, while a small stage will provide space for entertainment.
A new patisserie will also debut next February with simple, vintage-like beach décor.
Atlantis Casino is being enhanced with the secluded, main-level Salon Privé—a high-end gaming area with slot machines and private rooms with table games. The salon’s entrance will be framed by honey onyx columns that lead to a modern space highlighted with polished brass, gray tones, a crystal chandelier, and a 16-foot-long glass aquarium built to follow the contour’s of the room.
To begin in December, the Cove redesign will upgrade all suites with new headboards, carpets, and colorful wall art. It is expected to be complete in May 2016.
