Situated nearly 300 feet above the Amalfi Coast, Borgo Santandrea has opened in the fishing village of Conca del Marini. The cliffside hotel occupies a historic structure transformed by the locally based Orlacchio and De Siano families, as well as an esteemed design team comprising architect Bonaventura Gambardella, interior design Nikita Bettoni, and more. “We want our guests to feel like they are staying at a typical Italian home, hosted by two Italian families,” says general manager and co-owner Maurizio Orlacchio.
The property’s refresh honors its historic, midcentury roots and also pays homage to the setting’s organic beauty via varying shades of blue that reference the cities of Pompeii and Paestum. Regionally sourced materials, like marble, also infuse a Mediterranean twist.
Handpainted ceramics line the interiors alongside custom pottery, luxe textiles, and solid walnut and bronze elements. Brass details abound to reinforce the midcentury influence. A standout of the property is its collection of 31 handmade geometric tiles crafted by four artisans with geometries that echo both Pompeii and the Italian design greats of the 1950s and ’60s. “All of these pieces were sourced to create something that is an unmistakably Italian luxury experience,” Orlacchio adds.
Three restaurants and two bars compose the F&B lineup, including the seaside Beach Club, the culturally inspired La Libreria, and the panoramic patio of Alici.
Seven configurations span the hotel’s 29 guestrooms and 16 suites. Ranging from intimate and minimalist to a sprawling suite equipped with a private infinity pool, each sundrenched accommodation showcases intricate blue and white tiles and textiles to infuse the chambers with an artisanal sensibility.
