London’s Brown’s Hotel recently unveiled its refreshed Kipling suite following a three-month makeover. Crafted by Olga Polizzi, director of design fro Rocco Forte Hotels, the original Kipling suite has been joined with the former Albemarle suite. It is the first of the Forte Suites to debut in the brand’s Rocco Forte Suite Experience series.
Welcoming guests with an updated entrance lobby, the suite is wrapped in classic small-scale wallpaper accented by elegant fabrics. Polizzi handpicked numerous antique furnishings, such as decorative Italian side lights and pendant light fixtures from the 1940s.
“Like all of our rooms at Brown’s Hotel, we designed the Kipling so you can feel that you are in London. This will be a grand classical suite of great comfort with a combination of antique pieces and contemporary designer items,” says Polizzi. “The English theme carries on and is maintained as in all our rooms at Brown’s Hotel with English wallpaper, fabrics, colors, and objects.”
The sitting room maintains its original plaster detailing but includes new timber floors that run throughout the suite. Other new furnishings include a hand-knotted rug as well as a new sofa and chairs. One of the standout fixtures is a framed, handwritten letter penned by the suite’s namesake, Rudyard Kipling, during a stay at Brown’s Hotel.
A recessed headboard has been added to the bedroom, which enjoys views of Albemarle Street and eclectic, contemporary furniture. Attached is a 97-square-foot walk-in closet with a central ottoman partitioning ‘his’ and ‘hers’ sides, while the 170-square-foot ensuite bathroom is finished in white veined Arabescato marble and equipped with a freestanding tub and double shower. Both the bedroom and bathroom are enhanced with three floor-to-ceiling French windows, and an antique Alabaster chandelier, a contemporary shell light, and ornate gold vanity wall lights illuminate the regal space.
