In partnership with Icelandair Hotels, Hilton Worldwide plans to make the global debut of its new lifestyle brand, Canopy by Hilton, in Iceland with the opening of Canopy Reykjavik City Centre. The new Reykjavik hotel represents the culmination of a portfolio that has been in development since 2014.
“Reykjavik has an incredible energy and is a fitting setting in which to introduce our first Canopy by Hilton hotel,” says Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, Europe & Africa for Hilton Worldwide. “Iceland has grown in stature as a destination, owing to the efforts of Icelandair, which has improved the country’s connectivity and visibility as a global destination. Visitor numbers to Iceland have more than tripled in the last 15 years, and Canopy Reykjavik City Centre will add fresh momentum to the city’s vibrant travel scene.”
Scheduled to open in early 2016, the 115-room Canopy Reykjavik City Centre is currently under construction in a pre-existing building and will feature a local aesthetic with an open lobby, a rooftop bar and restaurant, and additional F&B outlets. Though the interior will be completely renovated, the building’s façade will be retained. The hotel will be operated by Icelandair Hotels.
“We have established a great relationship with Hilton Worldwide and Hilton Reykjavik Nordica, which we’ve opened and managed since 2007,” says Magnea Thorey Hjálmarsdóttir, managing director of Icelandair Hotels, which will also operate the new hotel. “Reykjavik is the perfect destination for the Canopy by Hilton brand, as the connection between this new lifestyle brand and dynamic city is strong. Canopy by Hilton will play a substantial role in further enhancing Reykjavik.”
