citizenM has expanded its footprint in Seattle with the launch of citizenM Seattle Pioneer Square, its second outpost in the city. Spread across 10 stories and 66,900 square feet, the 216-room hotel occupies the site of Seattle’s first sawmill, which was colorfully transformed thanks to a design collaboration between Gensler and Amsterdam-based firm concrete, as well as a robust program of commissioned and existing artwork.
“Art is always a central aspect of citizenM’s design,” the citizenM Design Team says in a statement. “The brand takes great care to incorporate a local touch to every new property through art and styling. For Pioneer Square, our design team lead with a strong local art program and design elements that reference the history of Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood.”
A façade of brick and glass nods to the neighborhood’s industrial roots while also greeting guests with a mosaic commissioned by local artist RYAN! Feddersen. Modern furnishings populate the industrial interiors, which include focal points like an exposed earthquake truss that stretches across the living room. The brand’s signature red hue also accents private and public spaces designed for maximum efficiency and comfort. Framed views of the Salish Sea and the nearby waterfront serve as the backdrop in minimalist guestrooms as well.
