UK-based design firms Russell Sage Studio and Cavendish Studios have collaborated on the design of West London’s newest members’ club, the Conduit. Housed within an eight-story building in Mayfair, the club takes cues from Scandinavian color palettes and traditional African craftsmanship.
Conceived as a hub for entrepreneurs and other professionals focused on social enterprise, London-based firm Feix&Merlin Architects renovated the building’s structure, maintaining its original Neoclassical façade. Olive green sofas, sage-hued rugs, cane amrhair, and and diamond-patterned terracotta flooring characterize the 43,000-square-foot building. Additionally, the building boasts a rooftop terrace covered with greenery and an opulent speakeasy-style bar housed in the basement.
More than 170,000 pounds of recycled materials span the interior alongside original artisanal objects that range from ceramics to hand-dyed carpets. The building’s original onyx flooring has been repurposed as the bar and furniture has been crafted ethically through partnerships that promote domestic sourcing. The building’s elevator is designed to produce and reuse energy, harvesting power from its descent to energize its ascent.
