Philadelphia’s rich history will be celebrated in the debut of the Windsor Suites, a Modus Hotel, following a multimillion-dollar renovation.
Seattle’s Dawson Design Associates pays tribute to the ingenuity and fellowship on which the city was founded. To accent the hotel’s new contemporary furniture, white glass paneling—inspired by Philadelphia’s own Benjamin Franklin and his printing press—adorns the elevator walls, lit by a custom fixture designed to model electricity circumventing the globe. The influence of Franklin’s discovery of electricity is another key motif, while Masonic symbolism also appears throughout the hotel as a nod to the city’s favorite son.
A 40-foot-tall light sculpture commands attention in the tiered lobby. In addition to the custom, three-story chandelier, original artwork is featured in both guestrooms and public spaces. Seating nooks are scattered throughout the lobby as well to accommodate private parties or more intimate meetings. Additional communal spaces are also located on the new catwalk mezzanine, which offers guests a chance to observe the action of the lobby from high above. Two new meeting rooms and a boardroom with built-in window bench seating are also making their debut.
Windsor guestrooms comprise two-room residential-style suites with a kitchen and living room. Many also feature private terraces overlooking Logan Square. A rooftop pool and outdoor space are expected to be complete by 2017.
