Destination Hotels has announced the upcoming launch of its newest property, the Quirk Hotel, located in downtown Richmond, Virginia.
“Quirk Hotel is an exciting addition to the Destination Hotels portfolio,” says Jamie Sabatier, Destination Hotels’ president and COO. “Under our management platform and track record of continued success within the urban space, we will provide customized tools to leverage the property’s enriching history and central location in downtown Richmond, an emerging hub of arts and culture.”
The property will be a locally owned boutique hotel housed in the historic J.B. Mosby & Co department store building, which will receive a top-to-bottom redesign from architecture and design firm 3north, interior design firm Poesis, and designers Pilar Proffitt and Robert Bristow. Artistic installations will hint back to the former location’s manikins and wardrobe-style casework.
“We are thrilled to be able to bring an artistic, distinct, and modern hotel experience to Richmond,” say Ted and Katie Ukrop, owners of Quirk Hotel. “We are determined to provide our future guests of Quirk Hotel with an immersive experience that combines the best of Southern hospitality with the vibrancy of Richmond’s up-and-coming cultural scene.”
The hotel is an extension of Quirk art gallery, situated in Richmond’s Arts District, and will have an overall art-centric aesthetic. Certain historic elements will be preserved, such as the segmental arches on the main floor, the groin vault ceiling, and the ornamental ironwork staircase. Guestrooms will feature contemporary millwork and warm wood floors.
Amenities will include a fitness center, 2,000 square feet of meeting space, a bar, and a restaurant.
The hotel is scheduled to open this September.
