Marriott International will boost its influence in Los Angeles with the addition of a new dual-branded Moxy and AC hotel in the city’s downtown. Opening today, April 12th, the property’s architecture and design by Gensler and Yabu Pushelberg, respectively, will draw upon the adventurous spirit of California to instill a stylish and distinctive sense of place across both hotels.
“We had the unique challenge of carving out distinct identities for each hotel while creating a cohesive property,” says Mitchell Hochberg, president of real estate company Lightstone Group. “Moxy DTLA evokes the iconoclastic romance and adventurous spirit of the California desert, with interiors that are sexy, irreverent, even a bit playful. For AC, we wanted something refined and composed, so we imagined the hotel as an artist’s loft or studio and brought the brand’s Spanish roots into conversation with the Latin heritage of Los Angeles.”
Moxy Downtown Los Angeles
The 380-room Moxy Downtown Los Angeles—the Marriott International brand’s fourth hotel in California—will reflect the progressive thinking and multicultural heritage of the setting across a range of public spaces, including 13 restaurants, bars, and clubs. Basile Studio spearheaded the design of a flexible coworking and event space on the 7th floor, which will serve as a haven for modern nomads, along with a pool deck overlooking the LA skyline crafted in collaboration with Undisclosable. Floor-to-ceiling windows in each guestroom will highlight a playful, cheeky flair as well.
AC Hotel Downtown Los Angeles
Meanwhile, the AC Hotel Downtown Los Angeles will focus on the brand’s Spanish heritage as well as the artistic soul of DTLA. A sunny bar and lounge and an intimate library will function as social hubs, while a rooftop garden on the 34th floor will crown the property. Each of the 347 guestrooms will boast ample floor space and floor-to-ceiling windows as well.
“Both Moxy DTLA and AC Hotel DTLA are geared toward independent explorers who travel on their own terms,” Hochberg adds. “The design for the hotels is inspired by the unique cultural and architectural heritage of Downtown LA and by the spirit of discovery that California stands for.”
