The Fairmont St. Andrews resort in Scotland has introduced its newly redesigned interiors from London-based firm RPW. Renovations remain ongoing, and are expected to be completed by mid-2017.
Locally sourced materials and manufacturers have been tapped to assist in RPW’s efforts to anchor the resort with an authentic, localized environment. The reimagined Atrium, for example, features a two-toned palette of dark green accented by timber and nautical carpeting. Also gracing the Atrium is a nearly 200-foot-long bespoke ceiling installation from artist George Singer. Entitled “Zephyr,” the artwork imitates the movement of the North Sea.
St. Andrews’ landscape and history influenced the redesign, evident in the upholstery and fabric selections. Contemporary velvet wallcoverings infuse the double-height reception area with a sense of place, while textured wallpaper and fabrics create a warm introduction to the revamped hotel.
Additional nautical carpeting in the upgraded Kittock’s Bar draws inspiration from the nearby River Tay, where materials such as timber, copper, and rope perpetuate a fishing village aesthetic. A new restaurant will also be unveiled as part of the redesign.
