The Fontenay hotel has opened along the banks of Lake Alster in the heart of Hamburg. Designed by locally born architect Jan Störmer, the urban luxury concept is clad with thousands of white porcelain tiles reflective of the shimmering lake waters and the fluid lines of the parklands surrounding the property.
Spread across 150,700 square feet, the hotel is crafted with an organic shape that comprises three intertwining circles that are conceived to resemble large treetops. Circular elements appear throughout the hotel’s interior architecture; no straight walls are featured inside with the exception of partitions, and none run parallel to one another. The custom furniture complements the unique design, including a 172-square-foot bespoke carpet.
Among the onsite F&B options is Lakeside, which spans 40 seats on the hotel roof, while the sixth floor is home to the Fontenay Bar and 320-degree panoramic views. The relaxed garden eatery Parkview is outfitted with high ceilings and large windows similar to the Atrium Lounge, whose modern, warm interior is balanced with 200 glass windows. The Fontenay Spa totals 10,764 square feet across the hotel’s top floor to maximize city views as well.
