San Francisco-based EDG Interior Architecture + Design (EDG) and Chicago-based Whitespace Interiors have been charged with a partial redevelopment of the Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley at East Palo Alto in California.
Scheduled for completion this month, the project will encompass all guestrooms, meeting spaces, and select suites.
“The existing rooms had a strong architectural character but were somewhat austere in their appearance,” says Heather O’Sullivan, founder and principal of Whitespace Interiors, which is heading guestroom renovations. “Our goal was to add dimension by creating greater contrast and by layering rich textures over simple materials to create visual energy, depth, and richness.”
Opened in 2006 as a corporate-centric hotel, the property’s newly designed spaces will feature a contemporary aesthetic rooted in clean lines and crisp forms, chosen to soften the rooms’ overall look and feel. Hotel-wide flooring will also be updated with custom, variegated carpet highlighted in plum and persimmon hues.
Rooms will include sculptural, abstract artwork, warm colors, textural fabrics, new loungers, and high-tech enhancements.
Meanwhile, the hotel’s meeting and event spaces will take local inspiration from Silicon Valley’s startup culture. A muted color scheme will be paired with grid-like structural details and a new palette of cherry wood, charcoal, dark walnut, and champagne metal details. Configurable air walls will adjust to suit functions of various sizes.
“We wanted to enhance guest experience and comfort, while paying homage to the dynamic qualities of the Valley, with a sense of drama,” says EDG principal Jason Dries-Daffner.
