In partnership with Tribeca Associates, Thompson Hotels has refreshed all of the accommodations at its downtown New York property, Smyth, a Thompson Hotel.
Locally based Gachot Studios redesigned each of the 14-story hotel’s 100 guestrooms and four suites—the penthouse suite, Smyth suite, and two Thompson suites—with an aesthetic inspired by the hotel lobby and surrounding Tribeca lofts. Guestrooms are decked out in eclectic midcentury modern, vintage walnut furnishings that are set against a neutral palette, with many also featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and linen window treatments.
“The best part about Smyth was that I could walk right outside the hotel doors into the heart of Tribeca and shop locally for pieces to use throughout the hotel,” says Christine Gachot, co-founder of Gachot Studios. “We set out to create a familiar and functional space for guests.”
Suites were residentially inspired by a traditional pied-a-terre and feature a color palette and aesthetic similar to the standard accommodations. However, each includes its own dining and living rooms, which were outfitted with timeless vintage pieces. The penthouse stands out with an oversized master bedroom, wet bar, and an 800-square-foot landscaped terrace with warm wood and black elements. The Smyth suite also includes a master bedroom but with a smaller 300-square-foot terrace.
