San Francisco’s Hotel G has unveiled three new penthouses, including the Grande Penthouse and two G Terrace Penthouses, which boast sleek styles that organically blend masculine and feminine elements courtesy of Los Angeles-based designer Gulla Jónsdóttir.
“San Francisco is the most European city in the United States, and these penthouses epitomize
that sophistication,” says Jónsdóttir. “My vision was to create a pied-à-terre where guests are swept into a world of sensual design that begs for champagne all day.”
Soft curves merge with hard edges in each space, which comprise raw material compositions including Dalmata marble, distressed concrete-like walls, brass, whitewashed oak floors, and floor-to-ceiling wooden shelves. Custom furnishings and Italian light fixtures exude opulence, complementing a palette of black, white, and gray. Alfresco areas also frame views of the city from seductive lounge nooks anchored by firepits. Bedrooms are outfitted with alcoves above the bed where a small fireplace is installed. Custom, metallic glazed walls are designed by Chicago artist Charles Nitti to resemble metal sheets, while spacious bathrooms are lined with smooth, curvaceous walls that lead to walk-in showers.
The Grande Penthouse features dual skylights and original 15-foot-high ceilings of stamped concrete from the 1930s. Sculpted, curved wood walls divide sleeping and living areas, and an expansive wet bar sits adjacent to a large wall wrapped in enticing black and white marble.
