Portland, Oregon’s former Hilton Executive Tower will reopen this spring as the Duniway. Named for the city’s famed writer and women’s rights activist Abigail Duniway, the hotel will aim to disrupt norms in both design and concept in honor of its trailblazing namesake.
Los Angeles- and Toronto-based firm DesignAgency will oversee the transformation of public spaces and guestrooms, the latter of which will span a minimum of 310 square feet. Their calming atmosphere is derived from tailored furnishings combined with unique touch points such as custom wallpaper, a carefully curated selection of books from Powell Books (Portland’s iconic bookstore), and other bespoke touches created by local artisans and manufacturers.
Guests will be greeted with a custom screen of gilded and blackened steel-framed fauna, which will serve as a backdrop. Lobby seating will range from intimate to communal configurations. Black and white photography will span the walls throughout the property along with various textured and urban elements.
Jackrabbit, the new dining concept from chef Chris Cosentino, has also arrived in the hotel’s lobby. Designed by Punch, the restaurant features 142 seats and a design inspired by the local aesthetic with regionally sourced materials such as burnt woods, Oregon black walnut and white oak, and steel. A variety of work from local artists populates the lively space.
