Joie de Vivre Hotels has announced that its first New York property, the Hotel 50 Bowery, will debut this winter in Manhattan’s Chinatown. Inspired by Lower Manhattan culture, the 229-room hotel celebrates the neighborhood’s history and future.
Wimberly Interiors’ New York office weaves influences from Chinese culture and the surrounding neighborhood throughout the interiors. Materials such as poured concrete and exposed brick will accent Asian-inspired furniture in the lobby, while corridors transport guests to historic Chinese villages by showcasing large-scale artwork from Beijing-based graffiti artist Dake Wong. Guestrooms and suites will include familiar subway tiles and blue and white tones reminiscent of traditional chinaware on the hand-plastered headboard walls. Work from artists such as Lowell Boyers, Simone Shubuck, and André Saraiva will also be featured in guestrooms.
Binding itself to the local community, the hotel will house the Gallery, a permanent exhibition from the Museum of Chinese in America honoring the location’s colorful and varied history. The Gallery will be situated adjacent to the 5,000-square-foot Atlantic Garden, named for the historic beer hall that occupied the site during the 1800s.
Hotel 50 Bowery will also house three F&B options from chef Dale Talde and his partners at Three Kings Restaurant Group: the lobby level’s 220-seat contemporary Asian restaurant Rice & Gold; the cellar-level, opium den-themed lounge Goldie’s; and rooftop bar 21@50 located on the 21st floor.
