Graduate Hotels has introduced its latest outpost, the Graduate Berkeley, within the former Hotel Durant adjacent to the threshold of the University of California, Berkeley campus. Crafted by AJ Capital Partners CCO Andrew Alford, the 144-room hotel pays tribute to the legacy of the historic building and the spirit of Berkeley.
“With thoughtful storytelling and design, the experience at Graduate Berkeley is respectful of the property’s history, but also embodies the love of progress that is the hallmark of Berkeley, California” Alford notes.
Drawing inspiration from the city’s bohemian roots, the hotel’s design reflects the university’s bohemian roots. Printed velvet walls with Persian motifs greet guests in the lobby along with a feature wall comprising thousands of National Geographic magazines and colorful murals from locally based artist Chris Lux. Public spaces and guestrooms are outfitted with furniture and artwork curated to evoke a residential and preppy energy.
A boardroom and event space will accommodate an array of functions. The hotel’s famed restaurant and bar Henry’s has undergone renovations as well.
