The Inn at the Mission San Juan Capistrano has opened in Orange County, California as the latest entry in Marriott’s Autograph Collection. The boutique concept features a design by Los Angeles-based studio Kay Lang + Associates that draws inspiration from the state’s abundance of rich heritage—from the indigenous Acjachemen people to the iconic Cliff Swallows.
Adobe, Monterey, and Spanish Revival architecture characterize the property and complement the surrounding vernacular. Thick corbel ceiling beams and glass bells accent the design and serve as modern reinterpretations of the Mission’s bells. Both new and historic artworks populate the interior with a sense of romance that naturally accents the Spanish theme.
Spanish influence meets California once again in the signature Ysidor Restaurant and Lounge, while El Café Real serves as the onsite café. Both eateries include sprawling alfresco seating against a backdrop of citrus trees and foliage. Included among the property’s nearly 40,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space is the expansive outdoor patio and the onsite olive grove. Additionally, the 2,500-square-foot Spa at the Mission is slated to open in January 2021.
The property features 125 hacienda-style guestrooms, as well as seven luxury suites, including three residential-style villas. Ranging from 360 to 380 square feet, guestrooms are outfitted with high ceilings, mission-style grand armoires, and chandeliers. Suites, which range from 500 to 880 square feet, are adorned with rich textures and warm tones. Maxing out at 880 square feet, villas boast 10-foot-high transom ceilings, hardwood floors, decorative Spanish-style tiling, and kitchenettes.
