JOI-Design has completed work on the new extension of the Hilton Munich Airport between Terminals 1 and 2. The new 162-room annex is conceived as a mountain hub inspired by the nearby Bavarian Alps. Contemporary and cozy, a log cabin-like style defines the interior to ensure a tranquil retreat from the bustling terminal.
Guestrooms are crafted with natural, locally sourced materials like pale honey-toned oak, gray stone, wool felt, and sage green carpeting that bears a bird’s eye pattern of the mountains. Matte, organic finishes contrast the black desk chair clad with a glossy, fiberglass shell. Full-height, soundproof windows are also included.
Benches are upholstered in felt and feature charging points at floor level beneath lime oak artwork laser-engraved with topographical patterns of airline routes. The motif appears again on the glazed inset tiles used to partition bedrooms and bathrooms, and in bathroom accent tiles. Leather closet doors and backlit headboards depict alpine scenes, while handcrafted bedside tables feature contemporary details. Sleek chaise loungers and black chairs are inspired by the designs of Hans Wegner.
