The Estates at Acqualina, the $1.5 billion, 244-room residential development, reveals Karl Lagerfeld’s lobby design for its ultra-luxury residential development in Miami’s Sunny Isles Beach, on the grounds of the Acqualina Resort & Spa on the Beach.
The lobby of the South Tower, also known as 777 Via Acqualina, will be completed in 2020. A second North Tower, with a different lobby also designed by Karl Lagerfeld, is planned as well. The Estates at Acqualina is the first condominium project in the U.S. for the designer.
“Lobbies serve two purposes—they are the first impression of a building and a common living room for socializing,” Lagerfeld says.
Both lobbies will blend classical architecture with contemporary art. Evocative of a Roman piazza, the South Tower lobby will feature photographic depictions of Roman fountains and arches etched into large-scale wall panels, ceiling screens, and skylights. A fountain will anchor the space, amplifying the expansive oceanfront views. A palette of cerulean blue, white, silver, gray, and pink hues will reference Miami, while lobby floors will be hammered metal inlaid with rugs fashioned from mosaic tiles.
The first phase of construction is slated to kick off in late 2017, which will see the launch of the 152-unit South Tower and the 45,000-square-foot Villa Acqualina amenity complex. Construction on the 92-unit North Tower will begin during the build’s second phase.
