Chicago-based Mary Cook Associates (MCA) has completed the interior design of the Kinn Guesthouse Downtown Milwaukee. The boutique brand’s second outpost, the 31-room hotel occupies a redeveloped four-story structure from the mid-19th century, which has been reinvigorated with clean modernism and artwork from locally based artists.
“The concept for Kinn Guesthouse Downtown Milwaukee combines the unique aesthetic of a boutique hotel within a historic building with the modern comforts and conveniences of a luxury residence or short-term rental,” says MCA president and founder Mary Cook. “The goal was to embody a sense of welcome and comfort similar to the experience of visiting the home of a friend or family member.”
Beyond the art-filled lobby, common areas—including a living room, dining area, and chef’s kitchen—housed across each floor feature distinctive color palettes. “We specifically designed the shared amenities to be flexible for a variety of uses, and now we’re seeing what was primarily envisioned as a private dining area also serving as an impromptu conference room and then transitioning into a place for socialization during cocktail hour,” Cook adds.
An indoor-outdoor rooftop event space crowns the property, while a speakeasy-style entertainment space is slated to be added on the hotel’s lower level.
