Groot Hospitality founder David Grutman and music artist Bad Bunny have teamed up to launch Gekkō, a Japanese-inspired steakhouse in Miami.
Located in the fashionable Brickell neighborhood, the new F&B concept reinterprets chophouse and sushi restaurant design conventions through a grandiose lens suited for the Magic City. Radiant color is a defining characteristic of the eatery, whose namesake, “gekkō,” translates to “moonlight.”
“Gekkō is the result of so many of my obsessions in food,” Grutman says. “It’s a steakhouse inspired by Japanese cuisine. There are delicious, innovative sushi rolls. There’s a lounge. I knew I wanted to do something that combined these worlds, and once I started speaking with Bunny, I knew he’d be a great partner. Gekkō is about having an incredible meal while having an equally incredible night.”
New York-based Rockwell Group spearheaded the restaurant’s lush interior design, which features abundant jewel tones and plush décor. A darkened palette is balanced with bursts of luminosity, while a custom gold and red dip-dyed rope installation serves as a subtle-yet-dramatic focal point. Graphic wallcoverings and velvet drapery further enliven the nighttime atmosphere, and backlit cutouts, bars, and a lounge area round out the space. “Sitting down with friends to enjoy a good meal is one of the moments I value the most,” says Bad Bunny. “I am thrilled that now I will have a hand in creating this experience for others.”
