Funded and managed by Delaware North in partnership with the National Park Service, Delaware North at Yosemite has completed a $650,000 revamp of 24 cottages at the Ahwahnee hotel.
The landmark cottages were built in 1928 at Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park. In 1977, the Ahwahnee property was listed on the National Register of Historic places and 1987, it was named as a National Historic Landmark.
Reimagined by Richard Kollath and Edward McCann of Wallkill, New York-based Kollath-McCann Creative Services, the cottages now feature improved room functionality and historic aspects carefully restored based on archival images and documents. Current furnishings and materials now mirror those used on the property between 1925 and 1942, and the designers were additionally influenced by a Western Arts and Crafts style. Rooms include a selection of simple wooden furnishings, handcrafted textiles, custom Mission-style credenzas, and nightstands with integrated power outlets and USB ports. Drapery was inspired by 1930s aesthetic and stands out with a bold pattern, while the striped broadloom carpets now reference the site’s original hooked rugs.
Local artist Kim Young Min provided linoleum prints of pinecones and flora indigenous to Yosemite to augment a pre-existing collection of watercolors by early artist-in-residence Gunnar Widforss.
