Oxford Hotels & Resorts and Hilton’s Curio Collection have announced the opening of the new LondonHouse Chicago hotel. Previously the circa-1923 London Guarantee Building, the property honors its heritage while demonstrating a modern design across its 452 guestrooms and public spaces.
Oxford collaborated with Chicago-based architecture firm Goettsch Partners in its efforts to revitalize the nearly century-old building with a new 22-story modern glass tower to harmonize with the original Art Deco façade. Chicago interior design studio Simeone Deary Design Group completed the hotel’s interiors, infusing subtle jazz themes alongside the modernist décor inspired by the building’s emergence in the 1920s.
“From flappers’ beaded dresses to industrial automobile interiors to generals’ uniforms and beyond, our modern take on these design elements allowed us to be inspired by the past but ground ourselves in the present,” says studio owner Lisa Simeone.
A collection of custom artwork and unique prints curated by New York-based arts organization Indiewalls is featured throughout. Guests can take advantage of three-level rooftop venue LH, the lobby bar, spa, fitness center, and two floors of high-end retail. Onsite F&B also includes Bridges lobby bar, which features broad views of the Chicago River bridges and plush jewel-toned furniture.
25,000 square feet of event and meeting space is also available, including 10 meeting and breakout rooms and a boardroom. The Juliette and Whistler ballrooms both boast high ceilings, an open column-free layout, and detailing also honoring the building’s 1920s history. Four private dining spaces are housed on the 22nd floor, including the Etoile outdoor patio that accommodates up to 80 visitors.Â
